Working from home on some days is the biggest blessing in our universe. On other days, it's the biggest curse we've ever brought upon ourselves. Quite often these days are the same days at different points in time. The affiliate marketing mommy is aware of the need to be both a professional marketer in one moment and Dr. Mom, Chef Mom, Soccer Mom, and countless other incarnations of mom in the next.
What we do not always know, at least not as readily as we'd like, is how to make it easier for the two to coexist. Technology is a blessing. We can now take Blackberries to baseball games, text message in the carpool line, and multitask on laptops (with a WiFi) while our children enjoy playdates at McDonald's or Chuck E. Cheese's.
The problem is something that those who work outside the home have figured out all too well. The mommy and the marketer both need office hours.
Sometimes you need to give in and go climb through the tubes at Chuck E. Cheese with your little ones. You need to be fully involved in the text you are sending or the story your child is telling about his day at school. You can't give 100% to both at the same time so TAKE TURNS!
It's a novel approach and mommies have been struggling with this since the dawn of time. No matter what we do for our children we wonder if it's the right thing, enough, or if we're going to miss out on doing something even better for them by sacrificing the hear and now.
The problem is the hear and now is so fleeting. What's the solution?
Well it all starts with small steps. If you are struggling with the learning curve to be an affiliate marketing mommy, get help.
I recommend Wealthy Affiliate University to anyone who wants to get involved in affiliate marketing and make it work. I especially recommend it to moms like you who have more important things to do with your time than waste it on a learning curve. It is worth paying the monthly membership for the knowledge you gain and the time it cuts off the learning process. This leaves you important time to enjoy the playground without lugging the laptop around.
The next thing I recommend is to set office hours and stick with them. Two things will happen as a result. You'll be more productive during your office hours because you have family time to look forward to when your "work day" is done. The other benefit is that your family can have a definite time each day to get you back. They will be happier too.
There is no hard and fast rule that says the mommy and the affiliate marketer can never mix but if you keep them separate whenever possible you will discover that you are able to do a better job of both.
